Yep I'm still around. I just haven't felt much like writing posts recently, and all my other contributors are off doing other things as well.

I just finished the campaign. It was really fun. The difficulty seemed right, the story was good and the plot twists (level events) fit well. Good job! And have a great 18 months in Indiana!

brainstorm.ubuntu.com looks a lot like what you are suggesting though I have no idea how well it actually works in practice.

Its called Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. I didnt say the name because they didn't mention it on their website. (I'm guessing they are hoping anonymity will save them from any copyright issues.) As for being well known, I would say its quite well known for SciFi. I had recommended it to you a while back. I will have to check that book out, I have really enjoyed the other stories I have read from Asimov.

What well known science fiction novel are you talking about. The only one I have read that seems close to that is an old Paul French (aka Isaac Asimov) novel called Lucky Starr and the Pirates of the Asteroids. Where Lucky has to duel against a pirate named Dingo in a game/fight using carbon-dioxide powered "push- guns". They use them to push themselves around and to try to drive each other back through goal posts. Is this the book you were talking about it was great, but I didn't thing held the distinction of being "well-known," but I could be wrong.

I haven't read Dune but thats one of the reasons worldbuilding appeals to me. The books that employ it aren't penny "hack job" books. You can tell real thought was involved which in turn makes you think. Issac Asimov's novels and even the short stories come to mind. They are small but open an in depth window into an often very different way of thinking.

It did take a while for me too. It took longer for me to figure out how to effectively use his spin / slide move to get to the right position. Proper sliding can really help you at the start of the game.
